1-24-24 Game Notes
Late Night (29th/30th)
At Sea on the Hond Ebrath
The late hours of the night (29th/30th of Flamerule pass uneventually.) Vaz and Atalaya maintain the watch but nothing is seen. She continues to play her panflute off and on, whenever any of the survivors become restless or are caught up in a nightmare.
Morning 30th of Flamerule
At Sea on the Hond Ebrath
When morning comes (although the sun does not) Inman and Nevil prepare breakfast. The wind increases as the sky becomes overcast and the rain starts. Everyone scrambles to get the survivors down to the common room, feed them breakfast and then get them situated in the hammocks. An extra hammock is strung in Cirilli’s room for the last of the survivors.
There is talk about whether or not to move the gnome Riddlepot out of the rain into the hold. It is decided that he can remain tied to the mast. Inman and Nevil are warned about the possibility of there being poisonous snakes in the hold, a leftover from Captain Jade Hawk. They are told that we have not seen any snakes for quite a while now. And that the boat cats have not seemed to have had any encounters with any snakes lately. They were not reassured.
Atalaya pays the crew: Annie 60 gp, Lonnie 1 gp, Kyle and Rogelio 15 sp each (5 days of work). They are each given a gemstone as a bonus for their assistance during the battle with The Tamarind. Gemstones of value between 10-25 gp with Atalaya guiding Rogelio towards one that should be at the higher end gems.
During the morning, Atalaya calls Inman aside and offers him two spellbooks that they had acquired during our adventures. (One is Drazal’s spellbook from our very first adventure and the other one we found in Phylum Lodge.) Inman seems very interested in the books and busily makes plans to get the supplies needed to copy any new spells into his spellbook.
Afternoon of 30th of Flamerule: Riverport
They continue to sail to Riverport without any problems and get there in the midafternoon. As they sail into port they notice that there are a lot of ships in the harbor that are flying the Ducal colors. We do not see the ship The Dragon. We note the rock walls that surround Riverport and see the dock district that is in front of the walls. The smells of cooking foods waft around the docks as we pull our dingy up to the pier. We are met by the dockmaster and pay a 1 gp docking fee for an overnight docking.
Handoff of Riddlepot to Guard
Inman has shackled the gnome with ropes and brings Riddlepot with us as we make our way to the Guard’s Citadel. Nevil, uncomfortable with the thought of being around that many guardsmen, decides to head directly to the Morninglow Tower (Temple to Amaunator (Lathandar)). The rest of go into the Citadel looking for Captain Mercutio.
Atalaya explains about the taking of The Tamarind and turns over Riddlepot to him. He is immediately thrown into one of the cells in the Citadel. The Captain questions Atalaya about what exactly had happened and about the rest of the crew. Atalaya states that the rest are dead and the ship was burned at sea since we didn’t have the crew needed to get it to port. Atalaya explains about the survivors that had been held as slaves and that we had them aboard our ship, the Hond Ebrath. Captain Mercutio sets into motion sending guards to our ship to get the people off and to the Sisters at the Harvest Home Temple.
Inman and the Captain talk about where Inman thinks the Tamarind was headed to transfer the slaves. Inman says that he wants to check the islet out as we pass that, and Captain Mercutio agrees.
Atalaya talks to Captain Mercutio briefly about what had happened with the ship, The Dragon, and about the girl Aiko who had said that she had been transferred as a slave from the Tamarind to the Dragon. The Captain asks if we told Captain Eleander about this. Atalaya says that we have.
Harvest Home Temple
When we leave we go to the Harvest Home temple to talk to the sisters there to prepare them for the arrival of the survivors. Atalaya talks to Sister H_______________ (chief priestess of this temple). Atalaya gives her 15 gp (already taken out of her private funds) to help pay for their care.
Nevil at Morninglow Tower
While this is going on, Nevil is at the Morninglow Tower. It is a very beautiful ivory and bronze structure, gazebo-like. It is a new structure in the town, located in the northeast portion of the town along the river. The river ran still and quiet as it passed the Tower. Nevil goes there to seek the equivalent of confession and meditative atonement. Violent acts against the innocent under the influence of a cursed weapon, neglectful of some daily prayers, words raised in anger against family. Nevil feels very guilty about these things. She spends about 1 hour in prayer.
Dinner: 30th of Flamerule
Green Goblin
Nevil meets the rest of the group at the Green Goblin. Sorrow is already there, playing music. Bluebell greets us happily and takes our orders.
A half elvish man with blonde hair comes over to the table we are sitting at. “Where have you been? I’ve been waiting for you?” It is Ivar. He joins us at the table.
Broddie brings over a platter filled with ales. (and a cider for Cirilli).
Atalaya introduces Nevil and Inman, adding that Seraphina sent them to us. Ivar tells us that he is planning on sailing with us to Candlekeep and that Annie had sent him a note when we had arrived at port asking him to captain the ship on the long voyage. We are excited to hear that he is coming with us. Spend the dinner telling tales about what had been happening with us and with him… at least those that can be shared in a public place.
When we finally leave the tavern, Sorrow and Ivar stay to continue playing music while the rest of us head back to the ship.
Sorrow and Ivar arrive back to the ship sometime in the wee hours of the night.
Midsummer Day
Morning with Visit with Kay
We breakfast on the ship, although Sorrow and Ivar sleep through it.
After breakfast, Atalaya, Vaz, Cirilli, Neville and Inman head into town again, going first to the Entertainer’s guild to look for Kay.
(Kay, a tallish half elf, slightly curly blonde hair, a crutch under 1 arm, limps as he walks with the crutch.) He is holding a coffee cup and sits down in a corner. He sees and recognizes Atalaya and Vaz and greets them.
Atalaya introduces Inman and Kay in the Entertainer’s guild. Kay warmly recognizes the resemblance of Rufus and Inman Setter. Kay is flabbergasted when Inman is introduced. Inman “I’ve heard about you… I didn’t know anyone survived.” Inman stays to talk to Kay.
Sorrow had made a visit the day before to look for books to take to candlekeep. A crate of candidate books was given to him by Kay. Kay suggested stopping in Blue Haven to try to get books there also. Recommends that we have more books to choose from as the Library in Candlekeep is known to be very fussy about which books they accept. He mentions that the Countess of Blue Haven is very well read. He has not seen Ailwin.
Atalaya and Nevil Go Shopping
Inman stays to chat with Kay while Atalaya and Nevil go shopping.
Atalaya gets a spectacular deal on 4 (+1) arrows, 2 thunder arrows and a lightning arrow after a dreamstruck merchant can’t focus on his trade. She spends a total of 425 gp on her arrows (already marked on character sheet. Atalaya decides that Cirilli has been making good progress and has earned another +1 arrow and buys that for her for 50 gp (already marked on Atalaya’s character sheet).
Nevil spars with the weapons merchant to avenge his sexism after she asked the price of a morningstar. He quotes a price of 400 gp and asks if it is for her husband. She offers 350 and a sparring match because she is upset with his sexism. In an evenly matched blow by blow exchange, he concedes it was an even match and lowers his price for a +1 morningstar. (actually pays 300 gp for the morningstar) He also repairs her armor. ( 100 sp) Asking her to dinner which was declined. She is to come back for the armor in an hour.
Boz visits Gurish Fortune Teller
Boz visits the Gurish fortune teller in private. (And therefore misses the sparring fight.)
Shopping at Val’s
Atalaya, Inman, and Nevil and Cirilli visit Val to purchase healing potions. Val gives us a discount for buying in bulk (and as a return customer). We get 6 regular healing potions and 4 greater healing potions. Totals 540 gp taken from group funds 6 regular healing potions @ 50 gp, discounted to 40 gp each. 4 greater healing potions @ 100 gp each, discounted to a total of 300 gp. (75 gp each)
Inman gets supplies to copy spells into his spellbook , getting a scholars kit for 65 gp. (Nevil pays for him) Nevil questions whether or not he would have gotten a better price by going to the wizard’s school, but it was decided that this might come with obligations that were not in the group's best interest for Inman to be bound to.
Lunch: Green Goblin
The group meets back at the Green Goblin for lunch. Boz recounts his experience with the Gurrish fortune teller and his new exercises to learn his gift of sight. Nevil recounts her physical flirtations with the sexist shopkeep when Inman finally asks about her split lip.
Nevil and Inman go to retrieve her repaired armor from the merchant. Nevil puts both Inman and the shopkeep on the spot, having Inman play her husband while she suggestively models the repaired armor. Both men awkwardly manage the situation. Inman states that he can’t believe that he missed the sparring match. He looks like he would really have liked to see it.
Banking
Atalaya takes care of banking business. Picks up 500 gp in jewels from Glitter, becomes part of the group funds. Picks up her 870 gp that she is owed from the group funds (added to Atalaya’s character sheet).
Lady Luck Tavern
The group visits the Lady Luck Tavern hoping to visit with Darfin and Sir Istaval on their way back to the ship to leave town. They find that the cleric Currin is in the tavern. He tells us that both are up north and will be away for several more weeks. He suggests that we check back in about 2 weeks. We tell him that we are headed for Candlekeep and will be away for an extended period of time and ask him to pass our greetings on to Darfin and Sir Istaval and to let them know that we would like to speak with them when we get back to Riverport. Curran thinks that they will also want to talk with us when they return.
This part doesn’t happen, we stay in port to celebrate Midsummer
The group returns to the ship and sets sail for the rendezvous point. Nevil treats Inman to a surprise “I’m sorry” gift of Pale Jade, his favorite tea. He is very “tickled” that Nevil got this for him. Nevil says that she knew there would be a time when she needed it to be an “I’m sorry” gift.
Boz and Nevil partake in a little nightcap.
The afternoon weather is sort of breezy.
The ship arrives at the rendezvous point to find it is a miniscule sandbar with no apparent notable features. They are not even sure that it would remain visible at high tide. Nevil decides that it still warrants closer investigation.
