Return to Candlekeep
Evening of the 7th of Candlekeep, cont:
Chapter 1: End of Dinner
Before he leaves, Sprig asks, “Should we possibly tell Bookworm about all of this?”
Nevil asks, “Why would we?” She considers her question and then adds, “Would he throw more resources?”
“I don’t know,” answers Sprig. He adds that the subject matter we are researching scares him. He shudders.
Atalaya asks Sprig if Bookworm would try to stop us.
Sprig again says that he is feeling unsure.
We continue to discuss having Sprig explain to Bookworm what Sprig has researched. Sprig suggests that Bookworm might have more information to give us, since he is older and the more experienced researcher. Sprig adds that he is good, but Bookworm has had a longer life.
Nevil claims the remains of the 3 weapons we are going to use in the ceremony if anything of them is left. She plans to give them as part of her tribute to Eldath when she makes her pilgrimage to fulfill her promise to her.
We wonder if we will have to use the weapons. Sprig says, “I don’t think you will have to wield the weapons, just release their energy.
Sprig reminds us that all 3 of the weapons are sentient.
Sprig asks again if he has our permission to talk to Bookworm. Nevil tells him, “Yes.” He leaves to talk to Bookworm.
See notes from previous session (We talk to Nevil about Parabor and Avalon, Cirilli wants to know what happened in Waterdeep and we share our stories with her.)
Cirilli expresses concern about going back to Parabor. Atalaya attempts to reassure her, as does Boz. Atalaya offers her the option of staying with the Greenleafs. Cirilli doesn’t want to do that. She feels that she needs to go back and assist us to reclaim the town from the cultists. Atalaya says that she thinks she has a way to truly defeat the Naga. She reminds Cirilli, Boz and Sorrow that she has a wish granted to her when we freed Zybilnia in the Palace of Heart’s Desire.
Nevil suggests that Cirilli ask Sufferance to make her and Still sending stones so that she can keep in touch with him. Cirilli leaves the group to find Sorrow’s siblings and to ask Sufferance if he can make a sending stone.
We talk about future plans once The Eye has been destroyed. The talk seems to center on Nevil’s pilgrimage and Atalaya returning to the Hidden Forest and seeing her father and showing the others his village.
Chapter 2: Return to The Firefly
Krinkle sees us as we return to our rooms. She waves at us and using various voices greets us and asks if we would like some sandwiches. We return her greetings and agree that some sandwiches would be nice. In a few minutes she returns with a laden tray of sandwiches
While Krinkle is making sandwiches, Nevil asks Boz if he has been keeping up with his studies. Boz replies that he has. Since he is practicing in his head he can do it anywhere. He says that he has been “sort of flexing.” He looks at a coffee cup and mentally pushes it.
Krinkle brings the tray of sandwiches and a pitcher of water. She bows and makes her way out of the room.
Inman says that “this is actually a lovely lodging.”
Nevil replies: _______________________________
Sorrow throws himself on his bunk. “I probably should take my boots off.” He lays on his back and wrestles with his boots. Nevil takes pity on him and helps to remove them.
Atalaya, returning to the conversation they had been having before leaving The Hearth, asks Inman what he wants to do after The Eye is destroyed.
Inman is startled by the question. He asks Nevil what she wants.
Nevil replies, “Clearly, go on the pilgrimage. After that?”
Sorrow is sprawled on his bed, breathing heavily.
Cirilli eventually comes back. “I talked to Sufferance, he said he can get? make? some. (Sending Stones).
This reminds Atalaya that they should get in touch with Ivar. (Sending stone to Ivar: We are ready to come home. When can we be picked up? Took about seven hours to walk here.)
Atalaya hears Ivar’s response and relays to the others, “He says that he hid the ship and that there have been suspicious traffic in the area. Be careful coming back.
We sleep well, and sleep in the next morning.

Chapter 3: Morning, breakfast
We wake up rested. This is a nice change.
Nevil: Hey Sorrow, check it out. It is like the water is rippling. (Showing off her new tattoo?)
Sorrow: “I don’t think mine does anything.
Boz is awake, staring at the ceiling. Cirilli is still sleeping.
Boz says, “I think I feel pretty good this morning.”
Atalaya grins and says, “We didn’t have to take guard shifts last night.”
We chat and get ourselves ready for the day. Then we head to The Hearth, for breakfast and to meet with Sprig again. We went through the breakfast buffet while we waited for Sprig to join us.
Sprig shows up. “Good Morning.”
Nevil: “What’s up?”
Sprig: “Not much. But I did talk to Bookworm. Do you want a room?”
Atalaya: “Yes.”
Sprig gets his own breakfast and then opens up one of the dimensional rooms.
Sprig: “Bookworm thinks that there is a nexus around Ardeep. Do you know it?”
Atalaya: “Yes, we’ve become acquainted with parts of Ardeep Forest.”
Sprig: “Energy has been reported in that area. People can detect variations in the magical weave. There does seem to be energy traces to suggst an energy nexus in that area.”
Atalaya: “Some of us have been in that area. There is Red Wizard activity in the area.”
Inman doesn’t think that he is strong enough (of a mage) to detect the energy variations.
Atalaya says that she remembers there being a lot of gnolls and druegar the last time they were in the area.
Sprig reviews some of the information that he has shared with us.
The Eye is a Thyrian artifact. Made by Azst Tam in 1375
Lesser Eye: was created to create panic.
In 1495 The Eye was lost, it had fallen into the hands of the Pact of the Lich
Tast Tam is a big bad evil guy, a Thyrian. He is a powerful Lich, he ruled Thay. He is a necromancer and created an army of undead soldiers. He is a talented manipulator and planner who works through undead minions.. He has been around for centuries. He has minions and lackeys etc.
The Thayians are assumed to be tracking the item.
Sprig adds at the end of his review, “Do me a favor and don’t tell me where it is.
We discuss what the ritual to destroy the item would/should involve.
Sprig looks at Inman hopefully. “Everything is different. Every retual is put together differently.
Inman adds, “ We put our own will into the weave to shape it. Casters like myuself learn different things to shape the weave.
Sorrow: “I do something like that. I use music….”
The discussion continues.
“Find a way to take the energy out of the relic. …. Give an elemental boost to the weave to pull the essence out of the artifact. … Use the weapons to pull the essences out. …
It is now around 11:00 am.
Nevil: “Well Sprig, is that what you got?”
Sprig: “I think so.”
Sprig tells us that he will send information if he hets any. He asks about who has a sending stone.
He is told that Atalaya/Boz have a set and that Cirilli is wanting to get one to contact Still.
Atalaya sends to Ivar: (Ready to come home. When can we be picked up? Took about seven hours to walk here.”)
Ivar responds: (We can be there in seven hours.)
It is time to head out. Sprig shakes our hands. “Please, be in touch.”
We pack up. Sorrow’s siblings seek us out. Sufferance thanks us for what we have done for them. He gives Sorrow a hug. “Take care of this one. He tends to wander off and get into trouble.”
Cirilli gives Stilla big hug.
Sorrow’s sister: “You are leaving now?” You’ll be careful, won’t you?”
Nevil: “Yeah.”
Sorrow’s sister: “It is very dark out there.” Here hand reaches to her heart. “Oh, that happened again.” … “My heart beat.”
We look at her, not quite understanding what she just said.
Sorrow’s sister: “My heart beats, but it beats very slowly.”
Sufferance adds: “Her heart beats every once in a while.
“Sorrow’s sister: “It started in …”
Sorrow: “I’ve got nothing. Umbrage (sp) give me a hug.”
Atalaya: Looking at the sister, “Since when did this start.”
Sorrow’s sister: Says that her heart beats occassionaly, since coming back from the Shadowfell.” Seeing Atalaya’s distressed look she adds, “I’m good.”
Sufferance: “I assure you she is alive. Maybe it will correct itself.”
Sorrow’s sister: Giggles. “You worry too much. You have a safe trip. It is very dark out there.”
Sufferance: “I agree. I agree. It is one reason we are staying here.
Nevil is very shocked.
Sufferance. “She could be in a different ________ or time.
Nevil: “I hope you find peace and community.”
Sorrow’s sister: “I think I shall. I hope you do too dear.”
Chapter 4:
We head out of Candlekeep.
Once we make it out of the library complex and are on our way down the causeway to meet Ivar, Atalaya turns to Nevil and asks, “Did you sense undead when you were around Sorrow's sister?”
Nevil: “Unstable.”
Sorrow: “yeah, maybe that.”
Nevil:
Sorrow: “She wasn’t like that before she disappeared. The Shadowfell does things to people.”
Atalaya: “Apparently so.”
Sorrow: “As much as I would like to have her with us, she’s a wild card and I want her to be safe.” He reflects for a minute or so and then adds, “I know where she is. We can get back here if we need to.”
**************************************************************
We continue to talk. ………….
Nevil turns to Inman and asks, “Was it everything you thought it would be?”
He replies, “... It was a spectacular place…” He says something going back sometime later.
Sorrow adds, “I would go too. I would like to come back to this place.”
We continue along the causeway. It is starting to get dark. We continue walking up the coast.
Eventually Atalaya sees the shape of the Hond Ebrath ahead. It seems peaceful enough. All the masts present and none of the sails on fire. But there are no lanterns lit either. Atalaya tells the others that the ship is just ahead of us. “I don’t see anything amiss.”
As we reach an area of beach near to where the ship waits offshore, Kyle is waiting in one of the Hond Ebrath’s dinghies that is pulled onto the beach.
After greeting everyone he tells us that there is suspicious ship traffic nearby. The crew has seen some boats they don’t like and believe may be pirates. We get into the dinghy and return to the Hond Ebrath. The crew help us board and then retrieve the dinghy in preparation for heading back out to sea.
Ivar greets us: “I was beginning to worry”
Nevil: “Let’s get going.”
Ivar: “You got some good information?”
Nevil counters with: “There are ships following you?”
Ivar: “Not sure.” He explains that they have been in a nearby cove near Candlekeep.”
Ivar sends Annie to the helm to set sail, heading north.
We head down to the crew’s deck, stow our packs and then gather in the common area to relax. We begin relating to Ivar what we had been doing during our time in Candlekeep and Waterdeep. (It’s not explicitly stated, but surely Ivar is taking note of Boz’s altered appearance during this).
It seems like barely anytime passes before Kyle hurries down the stairs looking for Ivar. Finding him speaking with the recently returned group and Cirilli he tells everyone that the crew has noticed the boat that they had seen the other day following behind us. The crew thinks that it is reasonable to assume that they are pirates at this point. “PIrates, I hope. It could be worse. I don’t know.” Then he adds, “Annie was worried it might be a deliberate hunting party. I’m going back to the nest.” Kyle hurries back above deck.
We watch Kyle leave and then rise and head to our rooms, collect our battlegear, don armor etc and then meet on the poop deck, to watch the approaching ship. Cirilli climbs up to the crow’s nest to join Kyle’s watch.
It becomes apparent that the ship is definitely following and trying to catch up with us. When the ship nears attack distance we move into positions to defend the Hond Ebrath.
